Little extravagances go by the wayside during a recession, like buying good bottles of wine. When desperate for the good stuff, do some tasting in Dundee Hills, Oregon.

With a recession underway, wine-lovers can sometime find themselves having to make sacrifices. For those who enjoyed a good bottle of wine during the flush times, it can hurt to have to go back to the mediocre stuff. So when thirsty for a taste of the good life once more, take a little day trip to lush Dundee Hills Vineyards and Wineries.

Dundee Hills Tastes So Vine

A short drive outside of Portland, Oregon is the eclectic little town of Dundee and its surrounding hills full of outstanding vineyards. With 30 wineries and counting, plus a large number of vineyards, this vortex of wine heaven is sure to please those picky about their fermented grapes.

Maps of wine trails can be had for the taking which means tasty sips are available for those seeking a reward for their efforts. Reds and whites of many flavors are being poured daily and it is simply impossible to not find a favorite flavor.

Friendly Winery Offers Views, Vines and More

Stoller Winery, on 373 acres, is an inviting winery both to the taster and the taster's wallet. Six tastings for 10 dollars is quite a treat, especially while sipping at a picnic table or under an umbrella while enjoying the enchanting view.

Some of the special offerings include a buttery chardonnay and a mouthwatering pinot noir along with other delicious varieties. Friendly employees plus mouth-friendly pours make for a pleasant stop, particularly for those seeking great value and taste.

Wander Around for Tasty Pours

Winderlea Winery is a fairly new kid on the block complete with a laid-back, furry fellow to greet you. Once inside, the views from the large, modern balcony are swoon worthy. So is the pinot noir, the specialty of the house.

Tastes are a little less economical at 10 dollars for three pours, but the proceeds are given to charity which is a plus. So is the dog.

Beautiful Life of Wine Tasting

Bella Vida Vineyard is the 'beautiful life' of Steven and Allison Whiteside, proprietors. The fruit grown on their vineyards is awarded to three different winemakers who each produces their own special wine.

Tastings can be had in the tasting room or had outside complete with heavenly views. Once making the drive up the very long, incredibly steep driveway, a thirst for wine and a view seems natural. An added plus is the friendly and energetic hostess, Allison.

So Many Wineries, So Little Time

There are many more wineries to be discovered in sumptuous Dundee Hills with a variety of tastings and fees. A moneywise tip to the cash-strapped is to share tastings among your group. That leaves a little extra cash for that one bottle you simply cannot leave without.

Wine tasting in Dundee Hills is a fine way to spend a day or weekend. Dragging oneself away is the hard part.
