From "Romeo and Juliet" to "The Tempest" thespians will enjoy another season of Tony-Award winning plays in this Northwest US annual Shakespeare festival.

Since 1935, the Tony-Award winning Oregon Shakespeare Festival has consistently produced some of the best repertory theater in the entire United States. From February to October every year, the quaint European-like town of Ashland, Oregon is home to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Here is a complete overview of their exciting 2007 season.

Agnus Bowmer Theatre: A 600 seat indoor theater with a round thrust stage. It has a contemporary and intimate feel.

  • As You Like It, William Shakespeare: February 16-October 28. A comedy about the perils of love and womanhood.

  • The Cherry Orchard, Anton Chekhov: February 17-July 8. A light comedy reflecting on the death of nineteenth-century Russian society.

  • On The Razzle, Tom Stoppard: February 18-October 28. A “comedy based on the story that inspired The Matchmaker and Hello, Dolly!”

  • Gem of the Ocean, August Wilson: April 17-October 27. Chronicling a black American families life in 1904 Pittsburgh, this is the first episode of Wilson’s celebrated 10-play dramatic cycle.

  • Tartuffe, Moliére: July 25-October 27. The historical comedic farce inspects the morality of a duplicitous man.

New Theatre: A 270-360 seat indoor theater with three different arenas or thrust stage configurations. It has a modern, high-energy feel.

  • Rabbit Hole, David-Lindsay Abaire: February 22-June 22. A tense drama about a couple experiencing of grief and guilt after they lose their young son.

  • Tracy’s Tiger, Linda Alper, Douglas Lanworthy, Penny Metropulos, Sterling Tinsley. Based on the novella by William Saroyan: March 28-Ocotber 28. The world premiere of this quirky love story told through a musical about a man, a woman and a tiger.

  • Distracted-Lisa Loomer: July 3-October 28. A moving and poignant comedy exploring the challenges of raising a child in our modern world.

Elizabethan Stage/Allen Pavilion: A 1,190 seat open-air thrust stage theater. It is one of the oldest Elizabethan theatres in the United States. There is nothing like enjoying a play in this open atmosphere on a warm summer evening when the acoustics are nothing short of amazing!

  • The Tempest, William Shakespeare: June 5-October 6. Romance, magic and a deserted island…. The Tempest is widely considered to be Shakespeare’s greatest play.

  • Romeo and Juliet, William Shakespeare: June 7-October 5. The tragic love story of a boy and girl from feuding families.

  • The Taming of the Shrew, William Shakespeare: June 6-October 7. A man attempts to tame his wild and obstinate wife in this classic domestic comedy.
