Edgefield History

McMenamins Edgefield yields quite a history, most notably its beginnings as the Multnomah County Poor Farm since 1911. Edgefield later became a nursing home and was closed in the 1980s. McMenamins purchased the property in 1990 and the transformation began. The main building at McMenamins Edgefield boasts 100 European-style guestrooms and hostels, each decorated to reflect the past. This national historic landmark offers each guest a glimpse into the past, as these quiet rooms contain no televisions or telephones! Room rates are reasonable and various special packages are available.

Of course the main attraction of McMenamins is the food and drink. Beer-lovers enjoy coming to McMenamins for seasonal ales and favorites such as Terminator Stout or Ruby. The Edgefield Brewery is the largest of McMenamins' breweries. McMenamins also operates the Edgefield Distillery, producing whiskey, brandy and gin, and the Edgefield Winery. Wines produced by McMenamins include cabernet sauvignon, merlot, white Riesling, chardonnay, pinot gris, pinot noir and other red wines. The April's "Celebration of Syrah", is McMenamins' celebration of wine.
