Central Oregon is a year-round playground for skiiers, hikers and revelers. These three big resorts offer a getaway that offers everything visitors could want.

Central Oregon's three major resorts are popular spots in the summer, but offer year-round fun with swimming, horseback riding and hiking in the summer and snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and wildlife watching in the winter. Check out these spots for a classic Central Oregon vacation.

Black Butte Ranch

Nestled in the shadow of iconic Black Butte, this resort is a sprawling paradise with jus about anything visitors like to do. Black Butte Resort totes itself as a golf resort, and it offers golf to visitors, but the resort goes beyond that. Vacation homes line the property, and many can be rented. There is a full-service spa, restaurants, shops and horseback riding available to guests without leaving the property, and popular activities like guided tours of local sights and whitewater rafting trips on the nearby Deschutes River can be arranged from the resort's central concierge.

Black Butte Ranch is located eight miles west of Sisters, Oregon on Highway 20 and has its own entrance. A few days swimming, walking, biking and relaxing on the property makes for a relaxing retreat in the high desert.

Sunriver Resort

The biggest and most-known of all Central Oregon resorts, Sunriver really does offer it all. With a huge compound like Black Butte Ranch, Sunriver offers a community all its own to visitors and homeowners alike.

Sunriver is very walkable and, in the dry seasons, accessible by bike throughout via a system of integrated bike trails. Sunriver's central commercial district offers shopping, including a market which offers grocery items so that leaving the property is almost never needed during a vacation.

A Sunriver home rental program offers vacation homes for rent to visitors, and they also have the choice of booking rooms at the Sunriver Lodge, or the large development of condominiums nearby. All are centrally located, and homes are located further out throughout the property.

Sunriver also offers swimming pools, hottubs and tennis courts throughout the property, and in the lodge there is a full-service spa. Skiing at Mt. Bachelor is just a short drive away, but with so many opportunities to play at Sunriver, many guests never leave. Sunriver is located 15 miles from Bend off Highway 97.

Seventh Mountain Resort

For years, this resort was the modest, family-oriented destination in Central Oregon that catered to younger families and stuck to a more centralized area without sprawling vacation homes.

Much of that changed in the past five years, when resort owners went ahead with a multi-million dollar renovation that brought the resort up to a much classier, modern standard.

All the resort's dining options and condominiums are held to a much higher standard now, and while the family fun aspect still applies (a waterslide and regular beach volleyball in the resort's main pool), adults are equally catered to at this newly remodeled resort.

Whitewater rafting, nearby golf, horseback riding, miniature golf and swimming are just some of the ways to pass the balmy summer days of Central Oregon at this resort, and all the condominium-style rooms have the latest amenities to insure guest comfort.

Seventh Mountain Resort is located in Bend, Oregon.
