Benton County is located in the heart of the Willamette Valley in Western Oregon. This Oregon county stretches from Monroe in the south to Adair and North Albany to the north. The most popular cities to visit in Benton County are Corvallis and Philomath. Oregon State University, home of the Beavers, is located in Corvallis. Area events and attractions include the Benton County Fair and Rodeo, Corvallis Fall Festival and Philomath Frolic & Rodeo, held during the summer months.
Benton County Attractions
The Benton Country Fair & Rodeo is held each year in Corvallis in late summer. Whether it’s entertainment, food, animals, carnival rides or music, visitors to this county fair find opportunities for fun. Late summer in the Willamette Valley lends itself to hot summer days and long hours of sunlight. Benton County Fair visitors enjoy the summer air, or cool themselves in the barns located at the fairgrounds. The county fair barns include exhibits on livestock, poultry, and other farm animals. Local Benton County residents showcase their bounty including prize-winning pies, jellies and squash. The Benton Country Fairgrounds are home to local events year-round.
Corvallis Attractions
The Corvallis Fall Festival showcases a celebration of art, held each year in late September. The festival is held at Central Park and the historic Corvallis Arts Center, in the old Corvallis Episcopal Church. The center exhibits local and regional art, hosts artist gallery talks, and gives workshops. This festival includes local art in a variety of styles and media. The Corvallis Fall Festival also includes workshops on art, a children’s art discovery zone, wine tasting, music, 5K and 10K run and more.
Philomath Attractions
The Philomath Frolic & Rodeo is held annually the 2nd full weekend in July. This community event features a variety of attractions and entertainment and has been voted the “best NPRA rodeo in the Northwest” for several years in a row. The rodeo runs Thursday through Sunday, including three Northwest Professional Rodeo Association events. Other rodeo events include bull riding, steer wrestling, calf roping, barrel racing and more. The main parade begins Saturday morning after the Kid’s Parade, moving along Main Street. The Philomath Frolic & Rodeo is considered a family oriented event with many activities geared towards children.
The Philomath Frolic & Rodeo offers guests food galore, with ample beef and chicken barbeque, and other food booths. The 4-day event provides fun entertainment with carnival rides, a dance, a fiddle jam, bingo, drill team, 5K fun run/ walk and craft booths.
Other Attractions in Benton County, Oregon
Benton County contains a large array of natural areas, historic sites and attractions. One of the most prominent attractions is Mary's Peak, which towers above the area. Visible from Corvallis, Mary's Peak is a popular recreational destination with hiking trails and off-road areas. The Willamette River, which flows through Benton County from south to north is another popular attraction. The riverfront area of Corvallis hosts a farmers market and other events.
